If you love the smell and feel of leather products and want to try your hand at making something special, this is your chance. Or, if you have been working in leather for years, this is your opportunity to gather with others who share your interest.
Guild members generously support each other with:
- Sharing Leather Patterns
- Classes on Leather Painting, Whip Making, Saddle Making, Leather Tooling and much more
- New Leather Project Ideas
- Leather Crossover Skills & Techniques
- Leather Craft Advice
- Sources of Leather Craft Supplies
If you have a project idea and are not sure exactly how to approach it, it is likely someone has made a similar project and can help you figure it out. During meetings, we often find that techniques used by one person for a specific project can be applied to other projects. The sharing of these "crossover" skills often enhances and improves fellow member's projects. We also find that our meeting show-and-tell segment sparks a great deal of creative ideas among members. So, please join us, we look forward to meeting you.
The Gateway Leather Guild holds monthly adult and youth meetings. Meetings are held in the back conference room of the TechShop at 4260 Forest Park Ave, St. Louis Mo 63108. When you come in just tell them you are with the group and they will have you sign the roster and come on back. Please do not wear sandals as this is against TechShop policy due to all of the equipment being ran in the building.
Our adult group meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. Our meeting format is very friendly and informal. Meeting content varies each month and includes demonstrations, hands-on projects, show-and-tell, friendly competitions, socializing, eating, and discussing guild business. Bring anything you are working on to complete and for any help or suggestions that are needed. The more experienced guild members are always happy to help out and make suggestions. Guests are always welcome! See our calendar of events for subjects and our meeting schedule.
Our youth group also meets monthly on the third Saturday at 11 a.m. This is a hands-on session designed for youth, from ages 5-18, to experience the leather craft world. Adult guild members, who enjoy sharing their skills and knowledge, guide our youth through their individual projects in a safe and supervised environment. We ask that parents accompany youth members ages 5-15. Locations will be announced.
Meeting are not mandatory as several of our guild members live in other states or a long distance away, but we encourage everyone to attend and participate in classes and fellowship.
15 dollars per year. To add family members is an additional 1 dollar.
